About Me
I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. I am mentored by Prof. Jeffrey Morris and Prof. Giles Hooker. My postdoctoral research is in the development of functional data analysis methodology, driven by applications in the biomedical sciences (e.g., wearable device data, radiomic data and climate data).
I completed my Ph.D. in the Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Limerick, Ireland, where I was part of the SFI Centre for Research Training in Foundations of Data Science. I was advised by Prof. Norma Bargary and my thesis was titled ‘Statistical Modelling of Second-Generation Functional Data with Application in Biomechanics and Human Movement Research’.
News
- Book Launch at the University of Limerick: On April 16th 2025 we launched our book “Functional Data Analysis in Biomechanics” at the University of Limerick. We were joined by colleagues, family and friends for a fantastic evening. I also delivered a seminar at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics on April 17th.
- ISBS Mid-Year Symposium: On April 8th 2025 Prof. Drew Harrison and I delivered an online workshop on Preparing Biomechanical Data for Functional Data Analysis. The materials are publicly available at our GitHub repository. A recording of the workshop is available to ISBS members to view here.
- Visit to University Technology Sydney (UTS): On November 21st and 22nd 2024, I visited the School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation at UTS. I delivered a one-day workshop on Functional Data Analysis for Sports Biomechanics and met with faculty, staff and students from across Australia (and beyond!) who are doing interesting work in sports biomechanics, exercise physiology and skill acquisition.
- FDA in Biomechanics Book: Our SpringerBriefs book “Functional Data Analysis in Biomechanics” is in press and should be published very soon! Check out the website or GitHub repository.
Visit to JHU WIT Group: On September 13th 2024, I visited Prof. Ciprian Crainiceanu’s Wearable and Implantable Technology (WIT) Group and Johns Hopkins University. I spoke about “Functional Regression Models in Human Movement Biomechanics: Methodology and Applications”. You can view the slides here.
ISBS 2024: On July \(15\)th \(2024\), I delivered a pre-conference workshop on Functional Data Analysis in Sports Biomechanics at ISBS 2024 on in Salzburg with Prof. Drew Harrison. The materials are available at our workshop website.
